MSc in Geographical Information Systems

The School of Computing has successfully run taught postgraduate courses since 1976. It hosts a large GIS Research group of international repute.

The course is aimed at:

  • Recent graduates who wish to work or research in GIS
  • Graduates working where GIS can be exploited
  • Computer scientists wishing to specialise in GIS

The Nature of the Course: All Master’s schemes require students to demonstrate an ability to think critically and to have studied an area to a high academic level. In addition, you will be expected to work independently to a greater extent than you will have for your initial degree. The course will help you to become more aware of relevant current trends and developments in Geographical Information Systems, and to be better able to read and absorb pertinent literature. To get the maximum benefit from the course, you will need to spend time outside the classroom in reading around the various subjects, and in ensuring that you fully understand the concepts discussed.
