Prof. Gary Higgs co-edits special issue of the Fire Safety Journal

Professor Gary Higgs (Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science) has co-edited, with Dr Jonathan Corcoran (University of Queensland), a special issue of the Fire Safety Journal on Spatial Analytical Approaches in Urban Fire Management. This consists of eight papers from international collaborators which describe the role of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in, for example, targeting fire prevention activities, examining variations in fire incidence, in optimally locating new fire stations and in fire risk analysis of residential buildings. Professor Higgs’ on-going research is exploring the use of spatial analytical tools to examine detailed trends in fire incidence in relation to socio-demographic characteristics as revealed by small area census data and open-source geodemographic classifications.

The issue is now available electronically on ScienceDirect
